No you do not need to have any experience with horses whatsoever, to benefit from the wonderful experience of Equine Assisted Therapy. I have over 45 years experience owning and working with horses and am a professional, BACP registered therapist so it is my job to facilitate the sessions in a way that makes it completely accessible to anyone who wishes to have Equine therapy.

Equine Assisted Therapy
Equine therapy involves connecting with & interacting with a horse (or the whole herd) outside in nature, in a calm & peaceful environment. There is no riding involved, all sessions are safely facilitated from the ground.
Equine therapy can help you develop skills such as self- awareness, emotional regulation, self-confidence and personal responsibility, as well as providing a calming & engaging experience, during which you can feel empowered to address your issues with your therapist.
As an experienced horse-woman, who has owned her own horses for many years, I have long known the healing power of the horse/human relationship, indeed my research project during my counselling training was on "The Role of the Horse in the Therapeutic Process". In 2024, I completed my foundation certificate in Equine Assisted psychotherapy & coaching, with Operation Centaur and I now work with clients alongside my own horses on our yard, based near Grantham.

Frequently Asked Questions
Horses are incredibly intuitive & engaging animals, who have a unique affinity to humans. They do not judge, nor do they 'think' the way we do. Horses are of course, non verbal, that is to say they do not communicate with words. Rather they use body language to communicate & take visual, sound & other non verbal cues from their herd members & from humans, in order to establish whether they feel safe or if they are in danger.
This hyper vigilance & responsiveness, gives them a very special ability to mirror or to reflect back any emotional response when working alongside humans, who may be experiencing mental health issues.
