Counselling

Face to face counselling, involves sessions which take place in my small but beautiful log cabin with views across the fields & woods. Located in South Lincolnshire (just outside Grantham), I offer a uniquely peaceful & unusual location to conduct in-person sessions.

As a person centred therapist who is also trained in CBT, Gestalt & existential psychotherapy, I can assist in helping you overcome a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief & loss, self-esteem issues & relationship or family difficulties.

My approach is to help you explore and address emotional, psychological, and behavioural challenges, taking things at your pace, but also helping you challenge long held assumptions or negative beliefs, which you may have been unaware of before.

Online Counselling

For clients who prefer the convenience and flexibility of having counselling sessions remotely, I can offer confidential, online sessions (50 mins) via Teams, at a time to suit you, ensuring that your session can take place in the comfort of your own home or office.

The counselling process, online, is very similar to face to face & and can be highly effective. During Covid most of my sessions were conducted online & many clients preferred to continue online long after we were allowed to meet in person again.

The main advantage of online therapy is that there is no travel time to consider. However it is worth considering, do you have a truly confidential & private space from which to dial in to your sessions , where you will never be interrupted or overheard and also if you have good wifi connectivity for the duration of the session.

Please be aware that online counselling is not suitable for everyone and we can explore this during an initial free 15 minute phone consultation prior to booking your first sessions.

Initial Assessment

We will start with an initial assessment session where we get to know each other. I will ask questions to understand your presenting concerns, personal history, current life circumstances, and goals for therapy. This helps in establishing a therapeutic alliance and creating a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Establishing Goals

Based on the assessment, we will collaboratively set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals for therapy. These goals serve as a roadmap for the therapeutic process and provide direction for the sessions.

Exploration and Insight

In subsequent sessions, I will create a safe and supportive environment for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviours. Through reflective listening, empathy, and insightful questioning, I can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your life experiences.

Skill Building

Therapy often involves teaching coping skills and strategies to deal with stress, anxiety, depression, anger, communication issues, or other mental health concerns. These skills may include relaxation techniques, assertiveness training, problem-solving skills, mindfulness practices, and boundary-setting exercises.

Building Self Confidence

I can help you cultivate self-awareness, self-compassion, and self-acceptance. Through validation, positive reinforcement, and encouragement, you can learn to challenge negative self-perceptions, build self-esteem, and develop a greater sense of confidence and self-worth.

Monitoring Progress

Throughout the therapy process, we will regularly review progress towards the established goals. Adjustments to the treatment plan may be made based on your evolving needs and progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Counselling?

Seeking professional help can often feel like a huge step to take and it is common to feel unsure or question whether you should be handling things on your own. It is important to know that it is always ok to ask for help but for many people picking up the phone or finding a good therapist is the hardest step to getting well.

You may find counselling incredibly helpful, if you are finding that your day-to-day life is being affected by worrying more than usual, having thoughts or feelings which are difficult to cope with, or if you are finding hard to enjoy your life because of your mental health.

There is no shame is asking for professional support to help you through whatever you are struggling with, whether that be past trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, grief or loss or any of the many life events or circumstances, which can arise for all of us a different times in our lives.

How Can Counselling Help?

Counselling is more than just having someone 'listen to your problems' and it not about the therapist telling you what you should do to 'fix your problems'.

Counselling can help in a number of powerful, transformative ways. Very simply, therapy sessions with Mellow Mind will to provide you with a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space for you to communicate your thoughts and feelings in a way that helps you learn to cope better and make positive changes for the future.

Counselling provides a hugely supportive environment to help you address your mental heath challenges through exploration and self reflection. I use my training and skills to help you overcome whatever issues you may be facing, to identify your goals and to make positive changes which are right for you.

Can you recommend any free resources?

There is a huge amount of support available, if you wish to look for self help alongside your counselling. However, be aware that online resources can vary in quality and be expecially careful with advice or help you read on social media like Facebook or Instagram if you don't know the source.

I run a free Facebook & Instagram page, the official Mellow Mind Therapy ones can be accessed here and here where I often post free, but ethical and valid resources so do give them a follow.

I recommend the NHS website, which provides some excellent self help guides online for a range of mental health issues:
https://selfhelp.cntw.nhs.uk/.

MIND the mental health charity has some excellent online resources for mild to moderate mental health issues for every day living: https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/tips-for-everyday-living/.

Do you work with children?

At Mellow Mind therapy, I specialise in working with adults and I do also work with older teenagers (16+). I do not have a specific CYP qualification, which is what I recommend for any parent seeking a counsellor or therapist for a child under 16.

I recommend the BACP counselling directory as a good place to search for therapists who specialise in working with children:
